Qualifications William J. Martin, R. A., AIA, P.P., LEED AP-H, N.C.A.R.B. is the Principal Architect and guiding influence of the firm. WJM Career History Mr. Martin was educated at Carnegie-Mellon University, College of Fine Arts, School of Architecture, in Pittsburgh, PA (U.S.A.) and Pratt Institute School of Architecture in New York City, (U.S.A.). While at Carnegie-Mellon ('81-'84), he studied Architecture and Managerial Economics, and received a FIRST PLACE DESIGN AWARD in the annual Spring Carnival design / build competition as Co-chairman and Chief Designer for the winning campus organization. Mr. Martin has over 28 years of Architectural experience, and interned with three New Jersey Architectural firms prior to starting the WJM Architect firm in 1991. A Licensed Architect in five States -- New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania and Massachusetts. A Member of the American Institute of Architects. A Licensed Professional Planner, Mr. Martin appears frequently before planning and zoning boards throughout New Jersey and other States on behalf of clients regarding municipal zoning issues. A Member of the American Planning Association As an expert witness, in the case of Lamart Corporation vs. Mayor and Municipal Council of the City of Clifton, NJ, Mr. Martin's expert Architecture and Professional Planning testimony was cited as instrumental in affirming the granting of the variances by the Superior Court of New Jersey Appellate Division. (Docket No. A-1883-01T5 appeal decided Aug. 4, 2003). Mr. Martin is a NJ licensed Building Inspector- HHS Class 1 License, a NJ licensed Building Subcode Official and a NJ licensed Construction Official and is familiar with all building code requirements and building department permit procedures. WJM Architect is a Member Organization of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). William J. Martin, is a certified LEED AP-Homes design professional. Mr. Martin has been certified by the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI). LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design and is a green building rating system by which buildings are designed, constructed and rated for energy efficiency and environmental sensitivity.
