While at Carnegie-Mellon ('81- '84), he studied Architecture and Managerial Economics, and received a FIRST PLACE DESIGN AWARD in the annual Spring Carnival design / build competition as Co-chairman and Chief Designer for the winning campus organization. At Pratt Institute ('84-'88), he studied architecture and it's relationship to the economics of real estate development and received his Architecture Degree (BArch) with Honors (Pratt 1988).
As an expert witness, in the case of Lamart Corporation vs. Mayor and Municipal Council of the City of Clifton, NJ, Mr. Martin's expert Architecture and Professional Planning testimony was cited as instrumental in affirming the granting of the variances by the Superior Court of New Jersey Appellate Division. (Docket No. A-1883-01T5 appeal decided Aug. 4, 2003).
Awards and Honors:
Mr. Martin awarded the AIA Architects League Anton Vegliante Award presented by the AIA ARCHITECTS LEAGUE OF NORTHERN NEW JERSEY (ALNNJ)and is considered the League's highest honor. The Vegliante Award is presented to Architects who distinguish themselves for their contribution to the advancement of the profession. This award is juried by previous Vegliante award winners from around Northern New Jersey. The announcement states WJM was selected for dedication to the AIA, and devotion to promoting the profession to the public, the press, elected officials, even to other architects. Mr. Martin awarded the inaugural Architects League Community Service Award presented by the AIA ARCHITECTS LEAGUE OF NORTHERN NEW JERSEY (ALNNJ). The AIA Architects League Community Service Award is meant to honor a League member based on their humanitarian, social impact, or community endeavors. This award is judged by architects from around the United States.
